WIND WARRIOR RACING:

For the latest in Wind Warrior Racing News Click here.

We know there are lots of you that want to race competitively and regularly so we, in association with the North Shore Radio Yacht Squadron (NSRYS), are pleased to inform you that we have secured an ideal permanent Wind Warrior race location.

It has been difficult finding a spot as many locations are already reserved for other classes of model yachts but we now can race at:

Smales Quarry Lake (beside Lake Pupuke)
on Sunday afternoons.

This is an ideal location as Quarry Lake is suited for the prevailing south westerlies. Car parks are right next to the lake and a number of buoys are permanently fixed for various courses.

To be eligible to participate on Sundays we need to join the NSRYS.

We are racing at Smales every 2nd Sunday at 2:30pm (and in between if needed). Racing is a pretty casual affair with penalties self policed and ignored unless the right-of-way boat has been affected by a contact. Buoy contact is also permitted as long as the mark is rounded correctly. Depending on numbers and mood of the day sometimes we dont even take the scores just race each one for glory. Casual racing doesnt mean the standard is low. Several of our sailors are professional including Americas cup, Volvo and Olympic yachties and National Keel boat champions. We even have one of the Black Caps (but he has found some differences in Boating to Batting)

If races are recorded a $2 entry form is required for NSRYS members or $5 for non-members. As a member of the NSRYS you will receive their newsletter which will contain Wind Warrior Results and News amongst other things. The NSRYS also has, on site, a start tape and a dinghy (so you dont have to go swimming when things go bad). The entry fee is only $20 and the subscription $25. Attached is the Application for Membership form. Please complete this and forward your cheque to Graham Cross, Secretary

Go check out the Lake and give it a trial and please drop us a line with your thoughts and ideas about Sunday racing formats.

Look forward to seeing you at Lake Quarry.
